IT Specialist

This position is to serve as a Senior Information Technology Network Services Specialist supporting computer networks and data communications operations for Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) that supports the General Support Systems (GSS) and SCADA/EMS environments. The job will require adhering to the North American Electrical Reliability Council (NERC) Critical Information Protection (CIP), Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards where applicable. A highly qualified applicant will have knowledge of these standards and how they relate to Networking and systems used in the electric industry. Must have IT-related experience demonstrating EACH of the four competencies AND specialized experience listed below. The experience must be IT related and may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification) as appropriate. Attention to Detail - Applicant established criteria for measuring the effectiveness of the system authorization program, formulating certification and accreditation projects; investigating and analyzing a variety of unusual conditions, problems and issues that affect the accomplishment of IT security goals and objectives. Customer Service- Applicant coordinate with staff in analyzing and investigating a variety of IT security issues. Oral Communication- Effectively transfer thoughts and express ideas orally in individual or group situations to provide recommendations on vulnerabilities and key remediation coordination efforts. Problem Solving- Make certification and accreditation decisions that involve major uncertainties as to the most effective approach or methodology to be applied to such significant information systems security issues. Experience implementing IT security policies in the development and operation of network systems (which include routers, switches and firewalls). Ability and skills to revise wiring diagrams, network topology drawings, schematics, instruction books, and other systems documentation to reflect changes made to the associated equipment. Knowledge of local area networks and a wide area of networks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
